The building Set-up

This page details how the building is contracted

Fast and Efficient Construction

  • Prefabrication Environmental Benefits:

    • Prefabrication significantly reduces environmental impact on the building site. No mud or dust is generated during the few hours of Cool Dome Home building erection.

    • The short construction time reduces noise, parking disputes, and littering, making the process less disruptive for neighbours.

  • Quick Construction Process:

    • The Cool Dome Home can be erected within a day and fully finished internally by the second day.

    • The rapid construction process also reduces financial stress for homeowners, as the building time is much shorter than traditional methods.

Design Variations: Urban vs. Country

  • Cool Dome Home-U (Urban Version):

    • Features an overhanging outer shell eave that not only improves aesthetic appearance but also increases the top surface area for extra solar energy harvesting.

    • Slight air turbulence may accumulate extra heat around the building, but these effects are negligible in urban environments where extreme wind pressure is less common.

  • Cool Dome Home-C (Country Version):

    • Designed for harsher conditions, such as wooded areas or open plains, where firestorms can gain momentum from hot winds. The Cool Dome Home-C is taller and has a smooth exterior surface to provide unobstructed airflow, which reduces air pressure and temperature buildup.

    • The increased height also enhances the building's solar energy collection capacity, making it equally efficient in terms of energy generation as the urban version, despite aestethical differences.

Building Components

  • Fixed Wall Panels:

    • Both the Cool Dome Home-U and Cool Dome Home-C share basic shapes for their fixed wall panels, differing only in the number and contours of the embedded windows.

  • Moving Panels (or Solar Panels):

    • Both building types feature moving solar panels that enhance their energy efficiency by maximizing sunlight exposure.

  • Top Hat (Ventilation and Air Conditioning):

    • The top hat is where the building’s air ventilation and air conditioning mechanisms are placed. It is identical in both building types.

  • Flywheel Battery Housing:

    • The flywheel battery, which stores energy generated by the solar panels, is housed in a prefabricated reinforced concrete waterproof cylinder. This component is identical for both versions of the building.

Versatile Applications

  • Emergency Shelters:

    • A 135m² Cool Dome Home with an ~8m internal height can save and accommodate up to 164 people for more than 4 hours in a bushfire emergency. This makes the Cool Dome Home ideal for temporary shelter during disasters.

  • Other Uses:

    • Cool Dome Home buildings can be utilized for various applications such as school buildings, aboriginal housing, miners' accommodations, army or emergency shelters, and affordable housing for young people in fire-prone areas.
